In the 14th century when the evil practices were on their highest verge, Guru Nank Dev ji came upon this earth as the saviour to protect the people who were suffering from these practises and was leading a very hard and painful life. Today, Guru Nank Dev ji is considered as the first holy saint of Sikhs who is not only respected and followed by Sikhs but people from other religions too bestow their head before him and love to follow his sayings and moral values. He is the person who travelled around the entire world along with his two followers that is Bhai Bala and Bhai Mardana to take people out of the false beliefs in which they were indulged in and was ruining their lives by losing their valuable money and time in following the wrong deeds which is not at all beneficial to them and will not help them in any way. Instead of this, he makes people aware that only hard work and honesty will help them to fulfill their beliefs. He also make people believe that god does not happy with all the expensive offerings but with our hard work. In addition to this, he tought lessons to many daemons who later on surrender before him and became good human beings. This way he is that holy saint who appeared for the service of humanity and mankind, making this earth a beautiful place to live on where there is no discrimination and everyone is treated equally. According to me, one who walks on the path showed by him and follows his principles is the happiest person, true to himself and others.

Guru Angad Dev ji, the second holy saint of the Sikhs started the tradition of free kitchen in which free food is provided to the people who need it. The tradition started by him is still being followed in every Sikh temple present in any corner of the world where people are served with free food 24 hours daily. The third holy saint of Sikhs, Guru Amardas ji made people aware that the help and serving the people who are in dire need is the true worship. Guru Ramdas Ji, the next holy saint had laid the foundation of the world most renowned the Sikh temple, Sri Harimandar Sahib which is known as golden temple and pilgrims from all over the world visit it daily and bestow their head before the Sri Guru Granth Sahib which is considered as our present holy saint.

The fifth holy saint, Guru Arjun Dev ji accepted to die happily by sitting over the fire instead of surrendering himself before the ruling emperor at that time. The next holy saint, Sri Hargobind Singh ji started the tradition of “Meeri Peeri” i.e the saint and the soldier that is an individual should worship god but along with that should become powerful enough so that he can protect himself and had never to be in situation where they had to surrender before others by going against their ideologies. The tradition of charitable hospitals was started by the next Holy saint, Sri Guru Har Rai ji to provide medication to the people who are in dire need and is still followed to date. Sri Guru Harkrishan ji cured many people suffering from the dangerous flu that was spread in the capital city at that time and durimg this operation he himself got infected while caring the infected people.

The last two holy saints Guru Teg Bahadur Ji and Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji along with their entire family lost their lives fighting against the Mughal Empire to protect their religion. Guru Teg Bahadur, lost his life by fighting against the Mughal empire to protect the Kashmiri Pandits who were asked to change their religion from Hinduism to Islam. Guru Gobind Singh Ji along with his entire family love to die happily for their religion instead of changing their faith. The last Guru, Guru Gobind singh Ji, laid the foundation of “Khalsa Panth” overcoming the discrimination based on religion, caste etc. to serve the mankind and humanity. This way all the holy saints had given a simple message that a true Sikh is the person who is loyal, honest, hardworker, true to its faith and is always ready to help any person who is in need.
